What is stainless steel?

Stainless steel can rust but does has a restoring ability and a protective layer. Under certain circumstances rust spots can still occur. This happens, for example, when the material comes into contact with chlorine. When there is contact with ordinary steel, rust can also arise. There are different types of stainless steel. This can be seen in the number behind it, for example stainless steel 304. This is the most common type of stainless steel. Everything you see in kitchens, toilets and bathrooms made of stainless steel is stainless likely to be steel 304.

An inox alloy, stainless steel, is a name for steel that has an increased resistance to corrosion. Stainless steel is widely used in machine construction, petrochemistry and offshore drilling. Good maintenance is important to prevent rust formation.

What is stainless steel cleaner used for?

Stainless steel cleaner is used to clean, shine, to remove rust or so-called tea stains and to protect the steel against corrosion. By using aggressive cleaning agents the oxide skin of stainless steel can be affected. This leads to discoloration or even to rust formation. In the industry and the workshop where welding is undertaken aggressive cleaning agents such as stain are also used to remove the discolouration of the welding. This makes the stainless steel on the treated area often lighter in color.
